Chupa Chups confirm that they would like us to design their new stand for this years Brand Licensing Fair Europe 15th-17th October at Olympia London following their fantastic success of signing of 8 major licenses at last years fair. Its fair to say that Chupa were over the moon with what we did for them last year, calling us “their heroes” as their stand was the most talked about at the fair, this years theme looks set to outdo what we devised last year.

A large meter wide print of the Bonfire! plate from the ‘i could just go to the shops’ dinner plate series is currently on show at an exhibition of contemporary British illustration. 4th May – 16th of June at the O3 Gallery in Oxford Castle, Oxford.

Its a delight to announce that our You & Me wedding rings are currently on show at the 2013 International Design Biennale St. Etienne, France. This years theme is that of empathy in contemporay design, we were invited to exhibit our You & Me rings in a select ‘Design With Heart’ gallery space by Sebastian Bergne, the rings are wonderfully titled as ’a refreshed and powerful symbol of togetherness’.

Follow our progress on the Crafts Council Craft + Tech residency at the iDAT department of the University of Plymouth here.

Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and supported by the Crafts Council, the Craft + Technology Residencies bring together makers Heidi Hinder, Chloe Meineck and Patrick Laing, with technologists at Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol, i-DAT in Plymouth and Autonomatic in Falmouth, to explore how new technologies embedded in objects (the Internet of Things), can enable remarkable interactions.

The Crafts Council and Bristols Watershed have awarded us a digital residency at iDAT to develop the Flying Skirt light as a networked digital device. Were very excited about the potential of this period and where it may lead for this object. Commencing in early January and culminating in a showcase event in late March at Watershed our studio will operate between Plymouth and London for this period.

Our latest light shade, the shade hangs limp until switched on by, rotation forcing the skirt out into a clean distinctive form that can be manipulated at will just like a ceramic pot on a wheel.

Light and speed and therefore form can also be adjusted by our bespoke software depending on the amount of noise in the room it hangs in.

Three years after we began work on this one industrial product we will shortly be applying for a patent. More information to follow and a Kickstarter launch.

Our You & Me wedding rings have just won the Innovation Award 2012 for the most innovative new product at NotOnTheHighStreet.com, quite a good day!

Our You & Me rings have been requested by the Biennale International Design Saint-Éienne.

Curated by Sebastian Bergne, the exhibition will show a selection of objects that exhibit qualities he considers important for something created in today’s world.

An object with heart is an object with integrity, generosity, humanity or simply extreme beauty. Created for a good reason in a certain context. Objects with purpose that bring us together as humans to meet, communicate and live together.

Tests on our new Flying Skirt light shade debuting at Tent London are in hand. Based on the way dresses spin out when dancing, the forms become all the more interesting when caught by a gust of wind.

Were exhibiting at the Designer Wedding Show in Battersea Park, London 12- 14 October, 10am – 5pm. There is a dedicated bus run from the Sloane Square Hotel to the show for a easy and swift connection.

We decided to dance with the devil, follow our foxtrot here!

All 12 plates are finally finished, titled ‘I could just go to the shops’, they celebrate a want to make over a desire to shop. The above is a draft of plate 3 where were dancing/sloshing the dry sifted clay back into life. The first batch on 25cm wide dinner plates in a delft blue will be on show at Tent London 22-25th September.

A new set of clothes rails for Religion Clothing employing a delightful patenting material to accentuate the varying tones of the mild steel.

The Sienna Art Institute funded by Paul Getty III has asked Patrick to write a course description for a new undergraduate semester based product design programme. We’ll let you know as we do.

Our second collection will be on show this year at Tent London 22-25th September.

We have been working on a patentable product for over the last year, our second batch of factory samples will finally arrive this week. All being well we will file our patent application soon afterwards, then we should be in a position to tell you what were not saying here!

While juggling other projects Patrick has also been spending a considerable amount of time drawing recently, drafting a story of illustrations for 12 plates. A draft for plate number 7 of 12 is shown above, check back soon for the full set available from our forthcoming store!

We recently completed a store install to promote the final Adidas Original by Originals collaborative sneaker collection. We were asked to devise a ‘shrine like’ centrepiece for the store to commemorate all of Ian’s influences centring around the KZK shoe. Involving a mixture of old and new materials, found and purchased objects (Lady Grey tea amongst other items), key quotes and memorabilia in a vertically chronological order. The ‘shrine’ is illuminated from its core while housing a revolving display to gently rotate the new sneakers.

Recording items of Ian’s are displayed in the window on purpose made plinths along with key vinyl records and posters inside the store. We had a huge amount of digital press on this project with some notable complementary comments.

We’re in the snow showered city of Berlin again this winter to oversee the second installation of the previous summers trade stand with of course a few graphic evolution requests by Religion clothing. Our construction crew removed half a day off their previous instal record for the 15 x 8.5 x 5.5 metre stand.

For gifts this winter we made a bevy of hand made candles, with double, triple, and quadruple wicks knotting into each other deep inside the wax. Using plastic soldiers, light bulbs, Lego blocks and x-men toys as moulds, neatly accompanied by our own Xmas Jam and Cointreau Marmalade. Sign up to our mailing list if you like the idea of getting a jiffy bag of jam and a double-wicked Wolverine through your letterbox.

This month we devised a fleet of new collapsible clothes rails for Religion Clothing. With raw welds, the finished rails were left outside in the rain prior to lacquering, to produce a rich golden rust over large areas of the rails.

Following the press we received at Tent both Patrick and some of our product have just been recorded for a BBC 1 show (Britain’s premium television channel), due to be broadcast in late May of next year. Viewing figures for this high profile show have been over 16 million here in the UK, unfortunately we cant tell you what the show is until its debut broadcast.

Regent Belt company is a long established traditional English leather firm of superb craftsmanship. In the last 10 years the business has concentrated on the regular fabrication of items for firms as disparate as Ralph Lauren and Folk but are seeking to re-assert their own product. We have been contracted to devise 50 point of sale units for concessions across the continent. Working closely with the client we investigated the factories works spaces, jewellers benches and traditional ledger desks looking to convey a balance of the firms traditional craft values combined with domestic and work setting’s Regents product will be found in.

Religion’s Bread and Butter exhibition stand continues to grow in size and detail this summer, while witnessing a carefully planned 30% reduction in transported mass and subsequent. Both our fastest and smoothest build to date.

The traditional English country quilted riding jacket firm are updating their image with a new collection. Exhibiting this range at the iternational trade fair of Pitti Uomo we were approached to devise the their trade stand for the Italian show. Taking our lead both from the new quilt pattern and the gateposts of the horse paddock and the Suffolk countryside we devised this locally produced solid beech structure that caters for significant rearrangement and growth of the collection in forthcoming seasons.

We like working with 6876 so much, we commence designs for a laptop case. Felt and plastic rivets, elastic and wood, you heard it here first. Out later in 2010.

A fishing trip inspires ideas about a new way of hooking coats…

In partnership with the menswear clothing firm 6876 we are working on a 5 piece wood collection of everyday tools and fashion accessories, check back for launch details and pictures of our splinters.

An interesting project to design a Scottish Whisky bottle for the Vietnamese market has grown delightfully into developing the entire bottle brand, label and logo for this specific and intriguing market place.
With the launch date set for September in Vietnam it has been a fast paced but rewarding project especially given our inherent love of all things Scottish and our partnership with Richard Rhys of the Pattern Foundry for this project.

We have also been coordinating and drafting the Religion and House of the Gods clothing labels stand (105 sq m) at the international bi-annual trade fairBread & Butter in Berlin, a 105 square meter stand. The winter’s area of focus was to work with Religion to develop a large metal frame adapted from housing construction systems, which more than halved the regular set-up time.
